HCMC – Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum was struck by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake this morning, April 30, according to the Institute of Geophysics.
The quake occurred at 8:05 a.m. at a depth of around 11 kilometers, posing no immediate disaster risk.
Since 2021, Kon Plong has been susceptible to frequent seismic activity. The strongest earthquake recorded in the district in the past century struck on August 23, 2022, registering a magnitude of 4.7.
Nguyen Anh Xuan, director of the Institute of Geophysics, noted that Kon Tum Province, especially Kon Plong District, resides within a minor fault zone, typically experiencing earthquakes below magnitude 5.0.
Local authorities are intensifying monitoring efforts and implementing measures to mitigate the impact of earthquakes in the province, if any.
