Large volume of illicit drugs seized in HCMC

Must read

HCMC – The HCMC Department of Customs on August 16 teamed up with anti-smuggling forces and the investigative police to discover and seize over 30 kilograms of illicit drugs hidden in packages sent from France to Vietnam.

In June, drug traffickers took advantage of the raging pandemic in Vietnam to illegally transport synthetic drugs from France to HCMC through the postal service system.

After being notified of the drug trafficking ring, the municipal Customs Department planned to break up such a major drug ring, the local media reported.

After two months of the investigation, the customs and city police discovered 10 suspicious non-commercial confectionery packages and examined them.

Over 29 kilograms of ecstasy and over 1.4 kilograms of ketamine were contained in these packages, which were set to be shipped to Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces.

All the pills of the drugs were subtly hidden inside chocolate pills, with each containing some 20 ecstasy pills.

The competent forces are expanding the investigation into the ring.

Since early 2021, the HCMC Department of Customs has discovered 50 drug-related cases and seized some 150 kilograms of illicit drugs.
