HCMC – Some local airports were allowed to resume operations this morning, October 29, after a period of suspension to avoid Typhoon Molave, which battered central Vietnam yesterday, while only Chu Lai airport in Quang Nam Province will remain closed to handle the damages caused by Molave.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam (CAAV) said that Chu Lai airport had its roof blown off, glass panels broken and other equipment damaged due to the destructive typhoon. Therefore, the airport in this central province will remain shut until 4 p.m. on October 30.
Airports that were less affected such as Phu Cat airport in Binh Dinh Province, Pleiku airport in Gia Lai Province and Phu Bai airport in Thua Thien-Hue Province reopened from 6 a.m. today.
Tuy Hoa airport in Phu Yen Province resumed operations at 4 p.m. yesterday, while Danang airport followed suit at 9 p.m. in the day, said a CAAV representative.
Earlier, CAAV had ordered the five airports—Chu Lai, Phu Cat, Danang, Phu Bai and Tuy Hoa—to temporarily stop operations starting from 6 p.m. on October 27 to ensure the safety of passengers, flight activities and facilities at these airports, given the impact of the typhoon.
