HCMC – Long An International Port and Japan’s Kobe Port have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to establish a strategic partnership aimed at developing green and smart port models and advancing low-carbon operations.
The agreement follows nearly a year of discussions. Under the MOU, the two ports will work together to expand maritime transport capacity, increase cargo throughput, and adopt advanced port management technologies. The partners will also share operational expertise and strengthen connections with international customers and logistics networks.
Human resource development is another key component. The two sides plan to cooperate on training and exchanging high-quality logistics personnel who meet international standards and industry practices.
The signing took place on November 17 in Osaka as part of an investment, labor, and trade promotion trip to Japan from November 16 to 22. The delegation was led by Nguyen Van Quyet, secretary of Tay Ninh Province’s Party Committee, alongside representatives from Long An International Port and Kobe Port. The partnership underscores efforts by local authorities and businesses from both regions to enhance trade ties and build a more modern, sustainable industrial infrastructure.
Long An International Port is a major project developed by Dongtam Group. The port covers 1,935 hectares in Tan Tap Commune, Tay Ninh. It currently operates seven berths, with plans to expand to nine. Once completed, the port will be able to accommodate vessels of over 100,000 DWT, with a designed capacity of three million TEUs and 10 million tons of general cargo annually.
Kobe Port handles around 2.6 million TEUs a year and operates an extensive container and general cargo infrastructure with 34 berths across an area of roughly 3.9 square kilometers.
