Man illegally entering Vietnam infected with Covid-19

HCMC – The Ministry of Health on December 26 reported a new Covid-19 patient, who is a 32-year-old man illegally entering the Mekong Delta province of Vinh Long from Cambodia, raising the country’s tally to 1,440.

The man, who resides in Nhon Phu Commune of Mang Thit District, traveled from Myanmar to Thailand by truck on December 15 and stayed there until December 22, when he and six others got on another truck to enter Cambodia the following day. He met two Vietnamese people there.

On December 24, he was driven to a border gate in Tay Ninh Province, then to HCMC. He later got on a 16-seat car to Vinh Long Province. During the trip, he stopped at Minh Phat stopover in Tien Giang Province.

After being informed of the case by his relatives, the Vinh Long Center for Disease Control sent his sample to the HCMC Pasteur Institute for Covid-19 testing on December 24 and the result came back positive on December 26.

He is being quarantined and treated at Vinh Long Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases Hospital.

Seven people have been determined to have been in close contact with the new patient and placed under quarantine.

The Vinh Long Department of Health has asked the Departments of Health in HCMC, Tay Ninh and Tien Giang to cooperate with it to track down those in close contact with the patient.
