HCMC – The Directorate of Water Resources has warned of rising water levels in the upper reaches of the Mekong River, with flooding expected to peak between September 30 and October 2.

Tan Chau station may see levels reaching 3.3-3.5 meters, while those in Chau Doc could rise to 3-3.2 meters.

In October, water levels in the upper reaches of the Mekong River are forecast to be lower than in previous years, but in the middle reaches of the river, they could surpass alert level 3 by October 19-21. Coastal areas are also expected to see flooding swelling to its highest levels by late October, potentially exceeding alert level 3.

Mekong Delta provinces such as Dong Thap, Vinh Long, Can Tho, Hau Giang and Soc Trang are particularly vulnerable, especially low-lying areas near rivers and canals.

The Cai Lon–Cai Be irrigation system and parts of the Ca Mau Peninsula are also at risk of significant flooding due to a combination of swelling rivers and flood tides.
