HCMC – The Ministry of National Defense will hand over around 16 hectares of land this month to the passenger terminal T3 project at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in HCMC.

The ministry will hand over some 14.7 hectares first and the remaining 1.3 hectares before October 30.

The plot of land is currently under the management of the ministry’s Air Defense-Air Force.

The Government approved the passenger terminal T3 project two years ago at a total cost of VND11 trillion, funded by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, and an annual capacity of 20 million passengers.

Once in place, terminal T3, along with the existing terminals T1 and T2, would increase the airport’s capacity to 50 million passengers per year.

Work on terminal T3 was initially scheduled to start at the end of last year, but obstacles linked to the handover procedures of military land delayed the groundbreaking date.

During his working visit to the airport in July this year, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked the Ministry of Transport to facilitate procedures to break ground on the project in the third quarter of this year and put it into service after two years of construction.
