HCMC – Vietnamese airlines plan to operate an additional 3,000 flights, offering over 650,000 extra seats during the upcoming Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday, according to the Vietnam News Agency.
The increase brings the total available seats for Tet travel, spanning from January 13 to February 12, 2025 (the 15th of the final lunar month to the 15th of the first lunar month), to over 2.15 million across more than 11,000 flights.
These additional flights will primarily serve high-demand routes for family reunion and holiday travel, such as those connecting Hanoi with HCMC, Nha Trang, Danang, Phu Quoc, and Vinh, as well as routes linking HCMC with Danang, Haiphong, Hue, Thanh Hoa, Quy Nhon, Pleiku, Chu Lai, Dong Hoi, and Vinh.
Domestic airlines report reservation rates of 70% to 80% on popular routes, particularly those departing from HCMC to northern and central regions.
To prepare for the peak Tet travel period, Vietnam Airlines Group has leased four additional Airbus A320/A321 aircraft, including two on wet lease. These planes are expected to operate around 180 flights each during this period.
In September 2024, Vietnam Airlines Group began selling nearly 1.5 million tickets on its domestic network to accommodate early booking demand.
