HCMC – Some 1,049 businesses in the central province of Khanh Hoa have registered to suspend their operations, up 96.1% year-on-year, while over the past eight months, the number of people who applied for unemployment allowances has nearly doubled compared to the same period of 2019, at 18,995, according to figures unveiled in a report by Khanh Hoa Province.

The report estimated the socio-economic situation in the first nine months of 2020 and made plans for the last three months.

The pandemic has led to many businesses in the tourism, textile and footwear sectors stopping their operations due to a dearth of raw materials for production, a lack of orders and decreasing tourists. This has affected more than 58,000 employees.

The total goods and services revenue is estimated at VND50,290 billion, down 30.46% year-on-year.

Meanwhile, travel companies, hotels and related services have been directly affected by the pandemic. With the international tourism segment, the cancellation rate is 100%. The recovery time has not been anticipated, so the number of businesses that have to close down and employees forced to quit their jobs are increasing.

In the first nine months of this year, Khanh Hoa’s tourism revenue was only VND4,265 billion, down 79.3% over the same period in 2019. The number of guests is estimated at more than one million, down 82%, while the average room occupancy rate is only some 15%.

The provincial Department of Tourism is coming up with a tourism stimulation program. It hopes that tourism services will recover fully by the fourth quarter of this year.

In the next three months, the province will continue to implement solutions to support people and businesses to overcome difficulties.
