HCMC – The Minister of Transport has said that Bac Kan and Hoa Binh are the only two provinces where auto inspection centers have remained shut and that they will return to normal operation between late June and early July.

Speaking at the Q&A session at the 15th National Assembly session on June 7, Transport Minister Nguyen Van Thang said the suspension of multiple auto inspection centers induced by irregularities involving center leaders and inspectors has resulted in huge backlogs of vehicles in need of inspection.

According to the minister, 600 leaders, inspectors and other staff at Vietnam Register and auto inspection facilities have been charged and detained and at the height of arrests, 106 centers were forced to be suspended, leading to huge backlogs of autos whose roadworthiness certificates are about to expire.

Minister Thang told NA deputies at the Q&A session that continued this morning that each auto inspection center has just one high-level inspector, so when they were put in custody due to violations, it would take a long time, possibly one to one and a half years, to find a replacement to get such a center back into operation.
