HCMC – The National Assembly (NA) today, June 7, issued a resolution removing Nguyen Thanh Long from the post of Minister of Health and from his NA seat.

There were 473 out of 479 NA deputies present at the meeting agreed to strip Long from his NA seat and 471 NA deputies agreed to dismiss him from the post of Minister of Health, the local media reported.

Head of the Board for Deputies’ Affairs under the National Assembly’s Standing Committee Nguyen Thi Thanh said Long was found to have showed a lack of responsibility, slack leadership and poor supervision; interfered, influenced and supported Viet A Technology Corporation during the issuance of the temporary and official circulation registration records and price negotiations for Covid test kits; and issued announcements on the prices of Covid test kits and medical equipment against the law.

Long was found to infringe Party and State regulations, violated the don’ts for Party members, caused serious consequences, losses and wastefulness for the State, and affected the care of public health.

His violations have sparked public concern and damaged the prestige of the Party Committee of the Ministry of Health, Thanh added.

The Party Central Committee expelled Long from the Party yesterday, June 6, at the request of the Politburo.

Long took up the post of Minister of Health in November 2020.
