HCMC – Around 1.67 million mobile phone numbers cannot make calls or send text messages from March 31 as their user data stored by telecom providers does not match the national population database.

Those mobile phone users still have 15 days left to update their information before facing two-way blockage. In the following 30 days, until May 15, anyone who has yet to update their information will have their contracts terminated and their numbers reclaimed.

Statistics from the Vietnam Telecommunications Authority under the Ministry of Information and Communications show that out of over 3.84 million targeted mobile phone users, some 2.17 million have contacted telecom firms to update their data, representing 56.49%.

This movement is part of the effort from the Ministry of Information and Communications to enhance management and cope with the recent spike in unexpected phone calls and text messages, especially from scammers.

Furthermore, accurate information helps phone users receive better support and reduces the risk of information being exploited for bad purposes, according to telecom providers.
