HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported 14,929 new Covid-19 infections in the country today, January 28, with 37 of them imported and 14,892 locally transmitted, falling 780 cases day-on-day.
Of the latest domestic infections, Hanoi accounted for the most, at 2,885, followed by Bac Ninh with 1,013, Danang with 886, Haiphong with 635 and Quang Nam with 617.
Thanh Hoa had 582 cases, Nam Dinh 518, Phu Tho 454, Hoa Binh 427 and Binh Dinh 424 while other parts of the nation confirmed lower than 400 cases each.
HCMC, which used to be the country’s biggest coronavirus hotspot, had a mere 153 new cases.
To date, Vietnam saw 166 Omiccron cases detected, with 92 of them in HCMC.
In the current fourth wave of the pandemic, the country has had over 2.2 million domestic cases, with nearly 1.5 million of them having recovered.
Today alone, 4,633 cases were announced to have recovered from the disease.
The ministry put the number of Covid deaths at 141 today, taking the country’s Covid death toll so far to more than 37,400.
The HCMC Department of Health has proposed placing imported Covid cases with no or mild symptoms under home quarantine.
According to the department, most of the imported cases detected over the past month, including those infected with the Omicron variant, have no or mild symptoms.
Under the HCMC government’s quarantine regulations, arriving passengers infected with Covid will be sent to Field Hospital No. 12 in Thu Duc City or the HCMC Hospital for Tropical Diseases in District 5.
The number of flights carrying passengers from other countries to Vietnam in the run up to the Tet holiday, which starts in early February, has increased. Many passengers who are foreigners, consuls and diplomatic officials want to self-quarantine at their homes or private hospitals.
The HCMC Department of Health proposed that those imported cases with severe illness be sent to three-level field hospitals. Those with moderate symptoms should be transferred to Field Hospital No. 12 or designated private hospitals.
Those with no or mild symptoms can self-isolate at home if their residences meet the requirements and if they commit to complying with quarantine regulations. They will be placed at Field Hospital No. 2 if they do not want to quarantine at home or their homes fail to meet the requirements or at private hospitals as wished.
If imported cases isolating at home get worse, they should contact local medical stations, pop-up healthcare stations or the 115 Emergency Center to be sent to three-level field hospitals.
The medical centers of Thu Duc City and districts must be responsible for assigning medical stations of wards and communes and pop-up healthcare stations to monitor and take care of imported cases under home isolation.
