Nearly 20% of traffic accidents in HCMC involve drink driving

HCMC – HCMC had 1,729 traffic accidents last year, with 18.2% of them directly linked to drink driving.

Among the 661 individuals who lost their lives in traffic accidents, 111 were found to violate alcohol regulations, according to Senior Lieutenant Colonel Doan Van Quoi, deputy head of the Traffic Police Division at the HCMC Department of Public Security.

The traffic pollice detected 128,149 cases of drink driving violations.

In 2023, HCMC police implemented a rigorous plan to crack down on drink driving, particularly on roads prone to traffic accidents and areas crowded with restaurants and bars.

The effort is aimed at enhancing safety awareness among road users and preventing traffic accidents, Senior Lieutenant Colonel Quoi said.

The police in HCMC are committed to intensifying their efforts to combat alcohol-related violations, and have strongly urged individuals to avoid drink driving to ensure the safety of road users.
