HCMC – The Vinh Xuong-Kaorm Samnor international border gate pair linking Vietnam’s An Giang Province with the Cambodian province of Kandal has been put into operation.

The two provinces jointly held a ceremony on February 23 to open the border gates, allowing for travel by road and waterway, the local media reported.

The event marks another important milestone in the friendship and cooperative partnership between Vietnam and neighboring Cambodia, especially An Giang and Kandal.

The opening of the two border gates is expected to pave the way for both sides to attract investors, upgrade infrastructure, and create optimal conditions to promote import-export activities, among others, benefiting people and businesses from the two nations.

On November 26, 2021, the Vietnamese Government issued Resolution No.146 on launching and merging the Vinh Xuong international road border gate and the Vinh Xuong international waterway border gate into the Vinh Xuong international border gate both by road and water.

Huynh Cong Huan, director of An Giang Province’s Department of Foreign Affairs, was reported by Tuoi Tre newspaper as saying that the Vinh Xuong- Kaorm Samnor has long served as a two-way trade link between An Giang and Kandal.

It was recognized by Vietnam as an international waterway border gate in 1995 and as an international border gate by Cambodia in 2001.

Two-way trade via this border gate rose from some US$500 million in 2010 to US$700 million in 2022.

The number of people traveling through the border gate has increased over the years and reached nearly 300,000 last year, Huan added.
