Currently, the locals in the northern mountainous district of Mu Cang Chai in Yen Bai Province are occupied with the new crop.
Mu Cang Chai, located more than 300 kilometers north of Hanoi, is a famous destination during the water pouring season in May and June and the ripening rice season in September and October.

Viewed from above, the terraced fields resemble winding silk strips, dotted with vibrant green patches of young rice seedlings ready to be planted.
The terraced fields, one after another, stretch from the foot of the mountain to the top of the hill, built by local farmers. They pour water into each field and loosen the soil, preparing for the new crop.
In 2007, the terraced fields in Mu Cang Chai’s three communes—La Pan Tan, De Xu Phinh, and Che Cu Nha—were designated as national monuments by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. Additionally, Mu Cang Chai has been featured in international travel magazines as one of the most beautiful places in the world for terraced fields.
