HCMC – The Ministry of Health reported 8,000 new daily Covid cases today, April 27, down by 427 cases day-on-day.

Hanoi remained the biggest coronavirus hotspot with 921 cases, followed by Phu Tho with 544. The other cities and provinces had 360 cases or below each. HCMC, which was the country’s largest Covid hotbed at the height of the fourth wave of infections last year, had a mere 48 cases today.

The provincial health authority of Quang Ninh today registered to add 3,309 earlier-detected cases to the national Covid monitoring system.

The country reported over 46,900 coronavirus recoveries and five deaths today, raising the total recoveries to 9.1 million and the death toll to 43,034.

With a sharp decline in new Covid hospitalizations, HCMC is planning to stop operating pop-up medical stations.

Tang Chi Thuong, director of the HCMC Department of Health, said the city has less than 100 new daily cases on average, with all of them infected with the Omicron variant.

Around 5,000 active cases are receiving medical attention in HCMC, with fewer than 400 cases staying at hospitals. Only 23 Covid patients are on ventilators. Especially, the city has reported no more Covid deaths over the past 18 days.

Field hospitals in the city have no Covid patients in severe condition. The health department is set to close more field hospitals after the Reunification Day (April 30)-International Labor Day (May 1) holiday.

The city will suspend all mobile medical stations by May this year.

The city will maintain one Covid field hospital with a three-level treatment system and shut down two others.
