HCMC – The Ministry of Health this evening, May 26, announced 1,275 new Covid cases in 47 cities and provinces, down by 69 against the day earlier.

Hanoi City recorded the highest number at 309, followed by Vinh Phuc with 92 and Nghe An with 83. Other localities detected fewer than 80 infections each.

Over 7,220 Covid patients were declared free of the disease, while no Covid deaths were reported today.

To date, more than 220.1 million doses of Covid vaccine have been given to people eligible for vaccination nationwide.

Responding to the outcries from some parents in HCMC over the expired vaccine doses given to their children, the municipal Department of Health affirmed that the shelf life of the related vaccine batch was already extended to July.

The expiration date of the Moderna vaccine batch was extended from May 17 to July 17 after the National Institute for Control of Vaccine and Biologicals, under the Ministry of Health, carefully assessed the quality of the vaccine to make the decision on expiration extension, according to a dispatch recently released by the municipal department.

The city is administering the Moderna Covid vaccine to children aged six to 12 citywide. The health of the vaccinated children is stable, according to the city’s Center for Disease Control.

The city has had 2,912,610 children getting the first shot, while over 61,120 children have been fully vaccinated, said the HCMC Department of Health.
