HCMC – Authorities in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, have proposed a VND390-billion overpass project to alleviate traffic congestion at the Ma Vong intersection, a key bottleneck near the city’s railway station.
On March 17, the Nha Trang City People’s Committee submitted a report to the People’s Committee of Khanh Hoa Province, seeking approval for a steel overpass to improve traffic flow over the railway tracks, reported the local media.
The project includes a two-way bridge connecting Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, and Yersin streets to Le Hong Phong. A roundabout will be built below to regulate traffic, and new internal roads will provide access to residential areas.
The estimated VND390-billion investment covers VND211 billion for construction and VND118 billion for land clearance and compensation. The overpass will have a minimum clearance of six meters above the railway, with vehicle speed limits set at 20 km/h on the bridge, 40 km/h on junction approach roads, and 30 km/h on underpass access roads.
Construction is expected to begin in 2025 and be completed by 2030. Once operational, vehicles traveling between October 23, Le Hong Phong, Thai Nguyen, Thong Nhat, and Yersin streets will be required to use the overpass. A pedestrian bridge will also be built.
According to the Nha Trang City People’s Committee, the Ma Vong intersection is a major congestion point, located near Long Son Pagoda and Nha Trang Railway Station. Heavy traffic and frequent train crossings cause severe delays. Despite previous traffic management efforts, congestion remains a persistent issue.
Local officials said the project aligns with Nha Trang’s urban transport plan for 2040. They expect it to enhance road safety, reduce delays, and minimize disruptions caused by railway operations.
