HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has emphasized that phase one of the Long Thanh International Airport project must be completed by December 31, 2025, warning that any delays will result in the replacement of those responsible.
The PM inspected the airport’s construction progress and its connecting transport routes on March 20, during a working trip to southern provinces, according to the Government news site.
This marked PM Chinh’s seventh on-site visit to the Long Thanh airport project as he continues to closely monitor progress, resolve obstacles, and speed up implementation.
He reiterated that the first phase must be substantially completed by the end of 2025, stating that no deadline extensions will be granted, and any project delays would lead to personnel changes.
He also stressed that transport infrastructure linked to the airport must be completed in parallel with the airport itself.
The PM urged all relevant agencies to focus on construction efforts. In particular, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment must urgently begin and complete the headquarters for animal and plant quarantine agencies by December 31, 2025.
Regarding Component Project 3, which involves building essential airport facilities, especially the passenger terminal, the PM directed contractors to strictly follow their committed timelines.
For Component Project 4, covering cargo terminals, express cargo facilities, operation centers, aircraft maintenance zones, and more, Vietnam Airlines has been assigned to invest in and operate aircraft maintenance services at Lots No. 1 and No. 2, while Vietjet will do the same at Lots No. 3 and No. 4.
To address the shortage of construction materials, the PM assigned Deputy PM Tran Hong Ha to oversee the matter and asked Dong Nai Province to support investors and contractors by ensuring sufficient material supply for the project.
