HCMC – Halong Bay, a UNESCO-listed World Heritage site in northern Vietnam, attracted more than 35,000 visitors during the New Year holiday, with 25,400 of them coming from abroad.
From December 30 to January 1, Halong City and other parts of Quang Ninh Province reported a total of 170,000 visitors, a 60% year-on-year rise.
Of them, 129,000 were domestic tourists and 41,160 were foreigners, according to the provincial Department of Tourism.
Tourism revenue in the period soared by 48% year-on-year to VND349 billion.
Favorite attractions include Quang Ninh Museum, Sun World Park, and Cua Ong Temple.
The majority of international visitors hailed from Vietnam’s key source markets for tourism, including China, South Korea, India, Japan and France.
Halong City welcomed two cruise ships on December 31, with nearly 3,700 European and American passengers on board.
The Bac Luan Bridge 2 border gate in Quang Ninh Province saw a significant number of Chinese passing through, contributing to a total of 13,000 visitors through the Mong Cai International Border Gate.
This surge followed a joint launching ceremony on November 29, 2023, aimed at promoting cross-border trade and tourism between Vietnam and China.
