HCMC – The Embassy of Denmark in Vietnam and the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association have launched the “Denmark in Your Eyes” 2021 painting contest for Vietnamese primary and secondary students nationwide to encourage a sustainable lifestyle among them.

The launch ceremony, which took place at the Nguyen Sieu School on the morning of January 21, was attended by Danish Deputy Head of Mission Louise Holmsgaard, vice chairwoman of the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association Cao Minh Truc and more than 150 students.

With this year’s theme of “Green Living”, the contest offers a creative playground for Vietnamese children to explore and learn about environmental protection, the responsible use of natural resources, the protection of wildlife, energy saving, renewable energy, carbon dioxide emission reduction, how to effectively manage and dispose of waste and much more.

Delivering the event’s opening remarks, Holmsgaard highlighted the contest’s purpose of raising public awareness about the significance of green and sustainable living.

The children will be able to share their messages and vision regarding current environmental issues, solutions and ideas toward green living via colorful and imaginative drawings.

Entries should be made on an A3-size art paper. Any medium, including pastel, oil pastel, pen, pencil, charcoal, acrylics, watercolor, oils and mixed media can be used.

The drawings should be sent to the Embassy of Denmark, level 7 of BIDV Tower, No. 194 Tran Quang Khai Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, no later than April 1, 2021.

The judging panel comprises representatives of the Embassy of Denmark and the Vietnam-Denmark Friendship Association as well as famous painters in Vietnam.

The grand-prize winner will be awarded a camera and a LEGO set. The organizer will also present two first prizes, three second prizes, six third prizes and 50 consolation prizes for outstanding paintings and two other prizes for schools with the largest number of entries. The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place in May 2021.

“Denmark in Your Eyes” is an annual art contest, which was first held in 2016, to celebrate the strong and vibrant relations between Denmark and Vietnam. This year’s contest is the first in a series of activities to celebrate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Last year’s “Denmark in Your Eyes” contest, with the theme of “Learning about Denmark and Denmark-Vietnam Diplomatic Relations”, received a total of nearly 16,000 entries. The grand prize was awarded to Nguyen Duc Vuong, a 15-year old student from Hung Yen Province. As many as 20 other individual prizes went to students from provinces and cities across the country such as Hanoi, Khanh Hoa, Tien Giang, Dong Nai and Binh Thuan.
