HCMC – Vietnam’s Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse, Ngo Phuong Ly, arrived in Jakarta today, March 9, for a three-day state visit to Indonesia, which runs until March 11.
At the invitation of Indonesian President and Great Indonesia Movement Party leader Prabowo Subianto and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn, the visit will include official talks with the ASEAN Secretariat.
General Secretary To Lam and his spouse are welcomed at Halim Perdanakusuma Military Airport with a seven-gun salute, a gesture of respect from Indonesia.
This visit marks the first time a top leader of the Communist Party of Vietnam has visited Indonesia in nearly eight years and coincides with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Vietnam and Indonesia have strengthened their relationship since the Strategic Partnership was formed in 2013. The visit also coincides with the 30th anniversary of Vietnam’s ASEAN membership.
