HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh underscored innovation as one of the driving forces behind Vietnam’s growth as he attended the Vietnam Innovation Day 2024 in Hanoi this morning, October 1.
Held at the National Innovation Center (NIC) headquarters to mark NIC’s fifth anniversary, the event gathered domestic and international officials, representatives from global tech giants like Meta, NVIDIA, and Qualcomm, along with 1,500 in-person attendees and 10,000 virtual participants.
Since its establishment on October 2, 2019, NIC has served as a leading platform for fostering connections within Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem and providing essential support to startups. To date, the center has assisted over 1,000 startups and facilitated partnerships between more than 1,500 innovative businesses.
The Government has introduced various policies to encourage innovation, including establishing innovation hubs and allocating funds for research and development.
Currently, Vietnam has about 4,000 startups, 208 investment funds, 84 incubators, 35 business accelerators, and 20 startup centers. The country’s startup ecosystem is ranked 56th out of 100 countries and territories globally.
PM Chinh urged the Ministry of Science and Technology to focus on semiconductor workforce training and create policies to foster innovation and entrepreneurship. He also called for leveraging international expertise for Vietnam’s innovation goals.
The country is prioritizing the development of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, semiconductors, and biotechnology. Vietnam aims to strengthen international partnerships to foster innovation and attract foreign capital inflows.
