HCMC – The prime minister on May 9 issued a warning against Vo Thanh Thong, Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment, for the violations and shortcomings he committed while he was serving as chairman of Can Tho City.
In January, the Party Central Committee’s Inspection Commission issued a warning against Thong, former deputy secretary of the Can Tho Party Committee, ex-chairman of Can Tho and former secretary of the Can Tho People’s Committee’s Party Civil Affairs Committee; and Le Van Tam, former vice chairman of Can Tho and former deputy secretary of the Can Tho People’s Committee’s Party Civil Affairs Committee, the local media reported.
According to the Inspection Commission, the Party Civil Affairs Committee of the Can Tho government infringed the Party’s working rules. It also showed a lack of responsibility, slack leadership and poor supervision, letting the municipal government and some individuals and organizations violate the Party’s rules and the State law in purchasing medical equipment and medicines and executing projects to upgrade hospitals. Many officials and Party members have faced disciplinary measures, even criminal charges.
These violations have caused serious consequences and heavy losses to the State budget and damaged the prestige of the Party and the Can Tho authorities.
The Party Committee of the Can Tho Department of Health in the 2015-2020 tenure was also given a warning.
Thong was appointed as Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment in May 2019. Earlier, he had held the posts of director of the Can Tho Department of Finance, vice chairman of the municipal government, secretary of the Party Committee of Can Tho’s Ninh Kieu District and chairman of the Can Tho government.
