HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has ordered the 500kV Lao Cai-Vinh Yen transmission line project to be completed within six months, setting a deadline of August 31.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony on March 16, the prime minister underscored the project’s critical role in securing a stable power supply, ensuring energy security, and supporting economic growth in northern Vietnam, reported the Government news website (baochinhphu.vn).
The Lao Cai-Vinh Yen transmission line is a key national infrastructure project, with state utility Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) serving as the investor.
PM Chinh urged contractors to accelerate construction, calling for an intense work schedule that includes night shifts and holiday work to meet the completion target.
He also directed local authorities to expedite land allocation for resettlement and relocate affected households swiftly to facilitate site clearance.
Spanning 229.5 kilometers across four provinces—Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Phu Tho, and Vinh Phuc—the transmission line includes 468 tower foundations, connecting the 500kV Lao Cai substation with the 500kV Vinh Yen substation.
With a total investment exceeding VND7.41 trillion, the project is 80% funded through bank loans and 20% from EVN’s own capital.
Once operational, the transmission line will have a capacity of 3,000MW, facilitating the transmission of electricity from hydropower plants in the northwestern region and neighboring provinces to the national grid. The project is expected to strengthen regional power connectivity, reduce transmission losses, and improve the efficiency of EVN’s electricity supply.
