CAN THO – Work on the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge project, which will span over the Tien River and link the Mekong Delta provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre, will start on March 29.

The bridge project, whose investor is the Transport Ministry, has a total length of some 17.6 kilometers. It is around 3.8 kilometers away from the existing Rach Mieu Bridge. The six-lane bridge project will allow vehicles to travel at a maximum speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

The project requires over VND5.175 trillion in investment, financed by the central budget. It is expected to be put into service in 2025 or 2026 at the latest.

Speaking at a meeting today, March 17, the Transport Department of Ben Tre said the development of the bridge is aimed at meeting the rising travel demand on National Highway 60 and contributing to the local and regional socioeconomic growth.

As for a project to build roads linking to the Rach Mieu 2 Bridge, it will cost over VND1.157 trillion, with the Management Board for Traffic Project Investment and Construction in Ben Tre serving as the investor.
