HCMC – Daklak Province in the Central Highlands and Phu Yen Province on the south-central coast have jointly proposed developing a railway connecting their respective cities, Buon Ma Thuot and Tuy Hoa, and an expressway linking the two provinces.
Daklak and Phu Yen authorities have written to the Ministry of Transport seeking the inclusion of the Buon Ma Thuot-Tuy Hoa railway into the railway development plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision extending to 2050. They also called for the prompt execution of an expressway project linking Phu Yen and Daklak by 2030.
Aligned with Vietnam’s railway development plan by 2020, with a vision toward 2030 approved by the prime minister, the Tuy Hoa-Buon Ma Thuot railway serves as a key East-West railway axis connecting Central Highlands railways with the cross-country North-South rail system. This 169-kilometer route is slated for investment between 2020 and 2030, with further developments beyond 2030 to be funded by both the state budget and the private sector.
The expressway between the two provinces has been incorporated into the approved road network from 2021 to 2030, with a vision extending to 2050. With a total length of 220 kilometers, the expressway will start at Bai Goc seaport in Phu Yen Province and end at the Dak Rue border gate area in Daklak.
It will integrate with critical national traffic routes, including National Highways 29 and 1, the North-South Expressway, and other provincial roads linking Phu Yen and Daklak provinces.
Upon completion, the railway and expressway projects will boost connectivity between the Central Highlands and the central coast and fuel socio-economic growth in the areas.
