HCMC – Having made landfall in central Vietnam, the fourth storm of the year has triggered widespread flooding and landslides that have displaced thousands of people and disrupted transportation.
Heavy rainfall triggered by the storm has impacted the provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, and Quang Nam, with homes, infrastructure and agriculture bearing the brunt of the damage.
In Quang Tri Province, over 1,000 households have been evacuated as floodwaters have been rising and landslides have been threatening local communities. Several roads and bridges have become inaccessible, including a section of National Highway 14 in Huong Hoa District.
Neighboring Quang Binh has seen more than 600 households affected by flooding, with some areas submerged under two meters of water.
In Nam Giang District, Quang Nam Province, the local government has evacuated dozens of households due to landslide risks, local news reported.
Storm No. 4 and ensuing heavy rain have disrupted power supplies and caused damage to crops and livestock across the region.
The affected provinces have initiated rescue and relief efforts, providing food, water, and temporary shelter for displaced residents. Local authorities have urged people to stay on high alert, as heavy rain is expected to continue in the coming days.
