HCMC – Revenue from consumer goods retail sales and services in Vietnam grew by 8.8% year-on-year in the first nine months of this year to VND4.7 quadrillion, according to data from the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO).
In September alone, consumer goods retail sales and services generated total revenue of VND535.8 trillion, a 1.2% increase compared to August and a 7.6% rise over the same period last year. The food and beverage sector saw a notable jump of 10.6%, while accommodation and dining services expanded by 7.9%.
In the third quarter of this year, the revenue edged up by 1.7% quarter-on-quarter and 8.4% year-on-year to VND1.59 trillion.
Key growth sectors included food and beverages, which rose by 10.6%, and household goods, which increased by 9.3%. Quang Ninh Province and Haiphong City posted the highest retail sales growth at 10.4% and 9.3%, respectively.
Revenue from accommodation and dining services during the nine-month period was estimated at VND543 trillion, up by 13.6% year-on-year, with Khanh Hoa Province leading with an 18% increase. Travel services posted growth of 16.7%, with HCMC reporting an impressive 42.2% surge.
While the retail and consumer services sectors showed positive growth, the GSO noted that the 8.8% increase was still below pre-pandemic levels, which had averaged over 10% growth.
