HCMC – The Ministry of Industry and Trade plans to submit the adjusted National Power Development Plan VIII to the Prime Minister by February 28, according to the ministry.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Hoang Long presided over an online conference on December 31 to discuss implementing and revising National Power Development Plan VIII.

The conference clarified national power development policies and allowed localities to provide feedback and recommendations, according to the Vietnam News Agency.

The updated plan aims to promote waste-to-energy projects by removing capacity limits and basing plant capacities on the actual volume of waste in each locality. The ministry will evaluate the impact of these projects on the power grid.

The rapid growth of rooftop solar power projects in industrial zones following the issuance of Government Decree 135/2024/ND-CP has prompted the ministry to explore further expansion. Floating solar power projects, especially those on hydropower reservoirs, will also be prioritized in the energy development strategy.

Local authorities have been asked to review and adjust their plans to align with the approved list of power source and grid projects under National Power Development Plan VIII.

The ministry emphasized the importance of selecting qualified investors for large-scale projects to ensure a stable electricity supply, crucial for the nation’s economic and social development.

The adjustments are being finalized in line with the Prime Minister’s directive in Document No. 9600/VPCP-CN, dated December 26, 2024, with submission to the Government expected before the end of February.
