HCMC – The Romanian Government has presented Vietnam with 300,000 doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine, triple the volume committed earlier, to help the latter cope with the pandemic.
At a ceremony to receive the vaccine, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung expressed his sincere gratitude to Romania for its valuable and timely support to Vietnam, saying this was a noble gesture reflecting the friendship between the two countries, the local media reported.
Dung added that Romania was one of the first European Union members to donate vaccines to Vietnam and expected Romania to consider transferring its surplus vaccines to Vietnam.
Romanian Ambassador to Vietnam Cristina Romila said Vietnam was the first Asian country to receive the Covid-19 vaccine donated by Romania. Romania will always remember Vietnam’s support with face masks and medical equipment in the early stages of the pandemic outbreak.
Romania will continue helping Vietnam in the fight against the pandemic so it can be brought under control at the earliest.
As of August 24, Vietnam had received more than 23 million Covid-19 vaccine doses and administered 17.6 million doses.
