SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship celebrates its 15th annual batch with the awarding ceremony in Hanoi on December 20th 2022. The scholarships not only financially support disadvantaged students but also facilitate their self-development towards a sustainable future, along with the ESG (E-Environmental, S-Social, G-Governance) mindset.
15th year of accompanying students
On December 20th 2022, SCG in collaboration with the Central Youth Union granted SCG Sharing the Dream 2022 scholarships totaling VND2 billion to 100 students and 100 pupils nationwide. By providing financial support and a variety of engagement and training activities via ESG direction, the scholarships marked a milestone on the 15-year-journey of SCG Sharing the Dream. The program demonstrates SCG’s continuous contribution to education for the young in Vietnam.
Within one month of recruitment, SCG Sharing the Dream 2022 welcomed more than 1,500 applications from university and college students across Vietnam who have not only a great passion for study but also a desire of sharpening their mindset about sustainable development, and thus can join hands to build a better future for their communities. After a careful assessment, SCG selected 100 students to award SCG Sharing the Dream 2022 scholarships, with a total fund of VND1.5 billion. Besides, SCG also accompanies with AskNow application – an online tutoring platform – to award students in primary and secondary schools who have difficult circumstances with 100 scholarships worth VND2 million each and codes to activate accounts on AskNow.
“It’s our great honor to partner with SCG in the SCG Sharing the Dream 2022. The program offers students throughout Vietnam opportunities to sharpen their skills and to understand their role in the development of the communities where they live,” said a representative from the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
A scholarship with purpose
According to SCG, their flagship scholarship program is moving into a new direction in the recent years of global challenges in economic, environmental and social aspects. The scholarship aims to encourage students to be responsible for the environment, social and provide education opportunities to reduce inequalities according to the ESG 4 Plus guidelines of SCG, including Set Net Zero, Go Green, Reduce Inequality and Embrace Collaboration based on fairness and transparency.
Accordingly, besides financial support, scholars are also encouraged to have responsibility with the environment and society with ESG lifestyle. In particular, they are able to join the ESG Tour at SCG’s green operations nationwide. The students will be encouraged to create ESG ideas and develop to be community projects for a sustainable future.
Each student who receives the scholarship this year is also a prime example of strong determination and constant effort on chasing the study dream while taking action for the environment and the society. Nguyen Hai Nam (Thuy Loi University – Hanoi) aspires to become an artificial intelligence (AI) engineer to develop a “tutoring application connecting the community with the disabled”, in order to assist disadvantaged people in his community. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao (University of Architecture – Hanoi) dreams to become an architect in the future who introduces sustainable energy use and green living to the neighborhood. Her idea of revitalizing a plot of land to restore outdated structures in order to provide leprosy sufferers with a more suited living environment has been recognized by global professionals.
Mr. Praween Wirotpan, Deputy General Director of SCG Vietnam, shared at the scholarship award ceremony: “We all know that education is the key answer for a sustainable future. SCG Sharing The Dream is a scholarship program that gives students education opportunities, empowers them to reach their dreams and finally contribute to Vietnam’s future. Through 15 years of operation, the program has supported more than 5,000 students in all parts of the country. Many of whom have succeeded in their fields, and even been able to give back to their communities.”
Aiming to further promote ESG practices among the community, SCG has also organized an ESG challenge called “Action for the environment with SCG – Contribution funds for green covering the Earth”. The challenge encouraged audiences to share their actions in protecting the environment on social media. With each entry, SCG would donate VND20,000 to a planting-tree fund. After launching for a month, the challenge has seen 110 participants with many outstanding sustainable ideas and successfully generated excitement about ESG spirit among the community.
SCG Vietnam has reaffirmed its role as one of the leaders in sustainability with environmental and social conscious operations. Likewise, in 15 years of the program, SCG Sharing the Dream has never stopped reinventing itself to accompany future generations, toward a better and sustainable future.

The SCG Sharing the Dream Scholarship has been the flagship corporate social responsibility program of SCG since 2007. During the past 15 years, the program has supported more than 5,000 scholarships for students nationwide.
