CAN THO – The Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP) estimated Vietnam’s seafood exports at US$8.8 billion this year, increasing 5% year-on-year.
According to data of the General Department of Customs, in November, Vietnam exported seafood worth US$910 million, soaring 23% compared with the same period last year and taking the country’s seafood exports from January through November to US$8 billion.
VASEP expected that seafood exports would reach US$800 million in December, helping seafood exports in the entire year reach US$8.8 billion, equivalent to the record set in 2018.
VASEP earlier forecast that Vietnam’s seafood exports would reach only US$8.4 billion this year due to disruptions in the production, processing and export of seafood caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The country’s total exports of agricultural, forestry and seafood products this year will definitely beat the target of US$44 billion.
Data of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development showed that from January to November, Vietnam’s exports of agricultural, forestry and seafood products amounted to some US$43.5 billion, increasing 14.2% year-on-year.
