HCMC – Self-drive tours between Mong Cai City, Quang Ninh Province and Dongxing City, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, will be resumed at the end of this month after a test run concluded in June 2020.
In April, the trade and border gate management authorities of Dōngxìng got permission to open immigration services at Bac Luan 2 border gate to alleviate pressure on the Bac Luan 1 border gate. This move is intended to facilitate the entry and exit of residents from both sides, including those participating in self-drive tours between Dōngxìng and Mong Cai.
Previously, the Vietnamese Government Office approved Quang Ninh’s request to extend the trial period of self-drive services from the Chinese side through the Mong Cai international border gate to Halong City, extending until the end of June 2020.
Self-drive tours that permit Chinese tourists to drive their own cars to Quang Ninh were first launched in 2016. This arrangement allows Vietnamese cars with five or seven seats to travel to Guilin City, covering a distance of 600 kilometers. Similarly, Chinese cars must complete a 180-kilometer journey before reaching Halong City, Quang Ninh Province.
Visas are required for all Chinese guests utilizing self-drive tour services. Initially confined to Halong, guests interested in traveling to other parts of Vietnam had to leave their cars in Halong.
