HCMC – Sixteen cities and provinces are beginning vaccinating children aged between 12 and 17 against Covid-19, according to the Ministry of Health.
They comprise Ninh Binh, Quang Ninh, Lang Son, Lao Cai, Dien Bien, Danang, HCMC, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Soc Trang, An Giang, Vinh Long, Binh Duong, Kien Giang, Ca Mau and Hau Giang. A total of over 1.4 million doses have been administered to children.
Other localities are planning to inoculate children, with Long An Province set to hold four vaccination drives from this month until the first quarter of 2022, the local media reported.
Over 131,000 children aged 12 to 17 in Binh Phuoc Province will get vaccinated from November until April 30 next year.
Quang Ngai and Khanh Hoa provinces have mapped out plans to administer Covid vaccines to children at 12 to 17 years of age, starting from this month.
The ministry said that a large volume of vaccine doses would arrive in Vietnam in November and December, so provinces and cities should speed up vaccinations for adults, with priority for those aged 50 and older, and raise the first-dose vaccination rate for children.
To date, 16 of the country’s 63 provinces and cities have achieved first-dose vaccination rates of 95% for residents 18 and older.
