HCMC – The Tan Kien specialized medical complex, with modern hospitals and medical schools in Binh Chanh District in suburban HCMC is gradually taking shape as Vietnam’s first healthcare park.

The project, covering 33.32 hectares in its first phase, has been in progress for over a decade. Authorities say it will ease pressure on centrally-run hospitals and expand healthcare services to the Mekong Delta region.

Several key healthcare facilities are now operational. The HCMC Children’s Hospital, with 1,000 beds, was opened in June 2018. The Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital, designed for 300 inpatients, was completed in 2021. The city’s forensic science center began operations in April 2023.

Meanwhile, construction is underway for the second campus of Pham Ngoc Thach Medical University, which broke ground in 2021 and is expected to be completed in 2025.

The HCMC Department of Health is adjusting the 1/2000-scale zoning plan to expand the Tan Kien Specialized Medical Complex from 55.03 hectares to 73 hectares in Phase 2. This expansion will accommodate additional medical facilities to meet the growing healthcare needs of the city and surrounding regions.

Several key projects will be developed in this phase. Emergency Center 115 will establish a second facility to enhance its emergency response capacity. A Trauma and Orthopedics Hospital with a 1,000-bed capacity will provide specialized treatment for accident and injury cases.

The plan also includes a testing and calibration center, a blood bank, and a high-tech screening and diagnostic center to improve medical research and early disease detection. Additionally, a practice hospital affiliated with Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine will be built to train future health professionals.

As part of HCMC’s transportation infrastructure development plan, the Tan Kien specialized medical complex will be connected to Beltway No. 3 and the third metro line.
