STF-Pham Phu Thu scholarships for children of garbage collectors

Must read

QUANG NAM – The Saigon Times Foundation (STF) under the Saigon Times Group, in coordination with the generous donor Nguyen Thi Le Huyen, presented 100 STF-Pham Phu Thu scholarships, worth VND200 million, to students that are children of garbage collectors on June 25.

The event was organized on the occasion of the Packaging Recycling Organization Vietnam’s first anniversary ceremony on June 25-26 at Palm Garden Resort & Spa Hoi An, Quang Nam Province.

Speaking at the scholarship award ceremony, an STF-Pham Phu Thu scholarship program representative said that aside from waste collection and treatment, efforts to protect the environment also include giving adequate attention and protection to garbage collectors by providing support to their children, helping the kids understand the contribution of their parents’ jobs to the society.

As waste collectors have yet to receive proper care from society, the program organizer and donors had learned their disadvantaged situations and donated the scholarships to their children to encourage the kids to continue their learning pathway.

As a beneficiary of the program, Duong Thi Thuy Hang shared that her mother has been struggling to make ends meet and raise three children. Hang said she will try to study hard to become a helpful and kind person.

Another scholarship recipient, Truong Nhu Quynh, said her father had died of a disease, so she desires to become a doctor to help needy people, to change her fate and others’.

Students were presented the STF-Pham Phu Thu scholarships in Quang Nam’s Tam Ky City on June 26

On this occasion, STF wants to express its gratitude to companies and generous donors that have been supporting the STF-Pham Phu Thu scholarship program over the past three years, including Novaland Group, the Palm Garden Resort, Thai Binh Trade and Investment Company, the families of Nguyen Thi Le Huyen and Tran Nguyet Thu.

STF is a non-profit organization jointly set up by the Saigon Times Group and its readers and partners in February 2002 to support education and training in Vietnam.
