HCMC – Recent U.S. trade policy adjustments do not target Vietnam, U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper said during a meeting with Vietnam’s Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien.

Knapper said that U.S. trade policies are designed to ensure fair trade and economic security, and safeguard American workers and businesses. He reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to strengthening economic ties with Hanoi.

Vietnam sees the U.S. as a key trade and investment partner. Minister Dien said Vietnam wanted to deepen economic cooperation with the U.S. while fostering mutual trust between the two nations.

The U.S. is Vietnam’s fifth-largest import market, supplying energy, machinery, technology, and raw materials. Meanwhile, Vietnam ranks as the ninth-largest buyer of U.S. agricultural products, including beef, pork, poultry, dairy, apples, cherries, and blueberries.

Dien stated that Vietnam is open to increasing imports of U.S. farm products and urged Washington to ease market access for Vietnamese agricultural exports.

Knapper highlighted growing interest from U.S. public and private sectors in expanding cooperation in Vietnam’s energy, climate security, and high-tech industries. He called for regulatory improvements to attract more U.S. investment in sectors such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and aviation.

Both sides expressed a strong interest in further integrating their economies through enhanced trade and investment partnerships.
