So Kien Basilica, also known as Ke So Church, stands in Kien Khe Town, Thanh Liem District, Ha Nam Province, about 65 kilometers south of Hanoi. This historic site is one of only four churches in Vietnam recognized as basilicas.
The church was opened to the public in 1883 after six years of construction under the guidance of Bishop Puginier Phuoc (1835–1892).
Built atop a large pond, the entire church floor was reinforced with ironwood to prevent subsidence, showcasing remarkable engineering foresight. Designed in the Gothic architectural style, the basilica can accommodate up to 5,000 people at once.
Despite the wear and tear over the years, some parts of the basilica have fallen into disrepair. However, this weathered charm has added to its appeal, attracting pilgrims and visitors who find these areas perfect for photography.
