HCMC – After detecting three community-infected Covid-19 cases, the government of the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang has decided to begin social distancing in line with the prime minister’s Directive 15 in the entire province from 0 a.m. on June 12.

Social distancing measures will be imposed until new announcements are made, the local media reported.

During the social distancing period, events gathering more than 20 people will be suspended. Residents must avoid gatherings of over 10 outside office buildings, schools and hospitals and keep a safe physical distance of at least two meters from each other in public places.

In addition, nonessential services will be suspended.

The Tien Giang government encouraged local residents to refrain from visiting medical centers, except for emergency cases and to comply with the competent agencies’ recommendations.

The province had earlier detected a new Covid-19 case in Nhi Quy Commune of Cai Lay Town and two others in My Duc Dong Commune of Cai Be District.

The case in Cai Lay is an employee of a sweetened porridge shop in HCMC’s Go Vap District. A customer of the shop tested positive for Covid-19 and he also caught the virus.

The two other patients are employees of the Trung Luong-My Thuan Expressway project. The project operating office in Cai Be District, 28 households in the two patients’ neighborhood and the My Thien, Hoa Khanh and Cai Be markets have been locked down.
