HCMC – Thongloun Sisoulith, Party General Secretary and President of Laos, and Nguyen Van Nen, Vietnam’s Politburo member and secretary of the HCMC Party Committee, have reaffirmed the special relationship between the two nations and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties.
During a meeting in HCMC on September 12, Sisoulith praised the city’s economic development and social welfare improvements. He emphasized Laos’ commitment to strengthening Vietnam-Laos relations and expressed gratitude for HCMC’s support.
The meeting was part of Sisoulith’s and his spouse’s four-day state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee and President of Vietnam To Lam and his spouse.
Nen expressed admiration for Laos’ significant achievements in recent years, including political stability, economic growth, and enhanced international standing.
Both leaders agreed to foster Vietnam-Laos cooperation, particularly between HCMC and Lao localities, in areas such as trade, tourism, investment, and human resource development.
Earlier in the day, Sisoulith visited the historic Nha Rong Wharf in District 4 and met with two former Vietnamese Presidents Nguyen Minh Triet and Truong Tan Sang.
He and his spouse also attended an event held by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in HCMC to raise funds for victims of typhoon Yagi, flooding and landslides in northern Vietnam.
