HCMC – Tra Vinh Province’s agriculture and fishery sectors aim to generate a combined VND8.8 trillion in output value during the final quarter of 2024, reported the local media.

The province’s agricultural production reached 72.6% of its annual target in the first nine months of 2024, a 3.5% increase over the same period last year.

Tra Vinh has set a goal of VND32.2 trillion in total agricultural output for the year, with authorities anticipating favorable conditions in the last quarter to help achieve this objective.

Rice production is expected to exceed the annual target of 1.1 million tons. As of now, the province has harvested nearly 780,000 tons from the main growing seasons, meeting 70% of the goal. The fall-winter crop is projected to yield an additional 380,000 tons, resulting in an overall surplus of around 48,000 tons.

In addition to rice, the province anticipates higher-than-expected yields in fruit and livestock production due to favorable weather.

In the fisheries sector, Tra Vinh is targeting nearly 245,000 tons of seafood in 2024, with 192,000 tons expected from fish farming. To date, the province has harvested 190,000 tons, achieving 77.4% of the annual plan.

Shrimp farming has remained stable since July, with disease control keeping losses below 10%. Rising shrimp prices have encouraged farmers to expand production, particularly in high-density farming systems. Fish farming is expected to reach 62,000 tons by year-end, surpassing the target by 6,600 tons.
