Although recently opened to trekkers, Mount Muoi has quickly become a popular destination among young hikers. The mountain is part of the Bach Moc Luong Tu range, and its peak reaches about 2,200 meters in elevation. The best time to climb is from October to February when cold weather increases the chances of seeing dense cloud formations at high altitude.

The trekking route from Lao Cai to Mount Muoi takes about three days. The ascent covers roughly 14 kilometers and passes through bamboo forests, old-growth trees, and several streams, including De San Nhua—the largest on the route. The stream splits into multiple branches that supply water for nearby villages and terraced fields. Despite its popularity, the trekking route remains challenging. It is not recommended for beginners, and many hikers have had to abandon their trips due to exhaustion.

Trekkers often camp overnight in the forest before heading to the viewpoint at Mount Muoi. At an elevation of over 2,000 meters, campers can enjoy the area’s natural beauty in its purest form. The region is famous for clear night skies and quiet surroundings. Campfires, meals, and conversations amidst the vast mountains, far from city lights or crowds, provide a rare sense of tranquility.

Those who spend the night on Mount Muoi often wake early to see the sunrise over a sea of clouds. Sunlight peeks from distant peaks and slowly colors the cloud layer in shades of pink and gold. The view offers plenty of opportunities for photography and capturing memorable moments across the pristine landscape of Lao Cai and Lai Chau provinces.
