HCMC – Truong Canh Tuyen has been elected as chairman of the Can Tho City People’s Committee, just 10 days after being appointed as deputy secretary of the city’s Party Committee.
The Can Tho City People’s Council held an extraordinary session this morning, February 20, electing Tuyen as chairman for the 2021-2026 term with an approval rate of over 98% (50 out of 51 votes).
The session also approved the dismissal of Tran Viet Truong from the position, as he has been assigned to serve as vice chairman of the Central Committee of Vietnam Fatherland Front.
Tuyen, 56, previously held various leadership roles in Hau Giang Province, including chief of the Hau Giang People’s Committee Office, chairman of Chau Thanh District People’s Committee, and permanent vice chairman of the Hau Giang People’s Committee.
On February 10, he was appointed as deputy secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee by the Secretariat.
