- Vietnam drafts national metro standards to unify urban rail development
- HCMC closes median on Truong Chinh road for Metro Line 2 construction
HCMC – A consortium consisting of Becamex IDC and Truong Hai Group (Thaco) is seeking approval from HCMC authorities to study investment in two urban railway projects linking former Binh Duong Province and the areas near the center of HCMC.
The first line would connect the center of former Binh Duong New City, now part of Hoa Phu Ward of HCMC, to Suoi Tien Bus Station in Dong Hoa Ward.
The route would span around 32.43 kilometers and include 19 elevated stations, with trains operating at a maximum design speed of 120 kilometers per hour.
Total investment is estimated at around VND64.37 trillion, which includes over VND8 trillion for land clearance.
The second metro line would span 24.2 kilometers and run from Thu Dau Mot to Hiep Binh Station, which is part of Metro Line 3 in HCMC.
The Thu Dau Mot-HCMC line is planned to include 14 elevated stations and one depot, which could be shared either with Line No. 1 in Binh Duong Ward or Line No. 3 in Hiep Binh Ward.
Total investment is estimated at around VND59.97 trillion, which includes roughly VND15.7 trillion for land clearance.
Both proposed metro lines are designed for a maximum speed of 120 kilometers per hour, with an operating speed of up to 110 kilometers per hour.
The consortium has asked the HCMC People’s Committee to approve in principle its proposal to conduct project studies using its own funding and to submit investment plans.
The study period would last up to three months from the date of approval, with the firms committing to bear all costs and risks if the proposal is not accepted.
