HCMC – Nine days after leaving the Kudamatsu port in Japan, two more trains of HCMC’s first metro line, with three cars each, arrived at the Khanh Hoi Port in the city’s District 4 this morning, March 11.

The two trains, capable of carrying 930 passengers each, will be transported to the Long Binh Depot in Thu Duc City for installation, the local media reported.

Until date, as many as 13 of 17 metro trains have been shipped to the city to prepare the first metro line for a test run, which is slated for mid-2022.

In October 2020, the first metro train was shipped to the city. The number of trains for the first metro line, which connects Ben Thanh Market in District 1 and Suoi Tien Park in Thu Duc City, increased to 11 in late 2021.

All trains of the first metro line are manufactured in Japan. They can travel at a maximum speed of 110 kilometers per hour on elevated sections and 80 kilometers per hour on underground sections.

The 20-kilometer-long urban rail line has three underground and 11 elevated stations. The VND43.7 trillion project is now 89% complete and will be put into operation next year.
