HCMC – A company has proposed developing two new waterbus routes linking District 7 with downtown HCMC, according to the district’s report recently sent to the city government.
One of the two proposed routes will connect the Bach Dang Wharf in District 1 with Den Do Cape in District 7 and the other will start from the Bach Dang Wharf to District 7’s Phu My Hung town.
The investor proposed piloting the operations of these two routes in five years, with a total investment of nearly VND260 billion. It added that it would mobilize capital to invest in and offer waterbus services on the routes, reported VnExpress.
The Bach Dang-Den Do Cape route will stretch 13 kilometers, with each trip taking some 56 minutes. The Bach Dang-Phu My Hung route will be over 13 kilometers long, with each trip taking around an hour. Aside from the departure and arrival stations, the investor would build nine stations along each route for passengers to get on and off.
The investor is planning to arrange 30-seater boats on the Bach Dang-Phu My Hung route and 50-seater boats on the other route.
The District 7 government approved the proposal of the firm, saying that as the district is surrounded by the Saigon, Nha Be, Phu Xuan rivers and many canals, the investment in the two new waterbus routes would encourage the growth of waterway transport and tour services, especially since the city is restarting its economy after bringing the latest Covid-19 wave under control.
