HCMC – After battering some central provinces of Vietnam, Typhoon Molave weakened to a tropical depression this afternoon, October 28, but Quang Nam Province is forecast to face flash floods, according to the national weather center.
At 4.00 p.m., the eye of the tropical depression was some 15.2 degrees North latitude and 107.4 degrees East longitude in the border area of Vietnam and Laos, with strong winds at levels 6-7, gusting at level 9.
In the next 12 hours, the tropical depression is forecast to move west into Thailand at a speed of 20-25 kilometers per hour, the local media reported.
Due to the impact of the tropical depression, Quang Tri, Thua Thien-Hue, Kon Tum and Gia Lai provinces are experiencing heavy rains with rainfall measured at 40-70 millimeters. The rainfall is expected to reduce tomorrow, October 29, while the provinces from Nghe An to Quang Binh are being lashed by rains from now until October 31.
Owing to the rapidly rising water level on the Vu Gia River in Quang Nam Province, many districts of the province, including Nam Giang, Dai Loc, Dien Ban, Duy Xuyen and Hoi An City, are predicted to experience flash floods.
