HCMC – Insurance claims in Vietnam have surged to nearly VND11.63 trillion in the aftermath of typhoon Yagi and ensuing floods, according to the Insurance Supervisory Authority at the Ministry of Finance.
The insurance payouts were made by 31 non-life insurance companies and 19 life insurers, covering losses across 26 northern provinces affected by the storm.
Life insurance firms reported 73 deaths and injuries covered by policies, with total compensation amounting to VND19.8 billion, of which VND14.4 billion has already been advanced to the victims’ families.
Non-life insurers have handled over 13,800 claims related to property, motor vehicles, and health. The total estimated losses exceed VND11.6 trillion, and VND108.3 billion has been advanced as part of compensation.
The Ministry of Finance has urged insurers to collaborate closely with relevant authorities to assess losses and expedite payments in accordance with legal requirements and contractual obligations.
